So yesterday and the day before SongKran was celebrated everywhere in Phuket. The meaning is below.
The Songkran festival (Thai: สงกรานต์, from Sanskrit saṃkrānti,[1] "astrological passage") is celebrated in Thailand as the traditional New Year's Day from 13 to 15 April. It coincides with the New Year of many calendars of South and Southeast Asia.
Basically it is a big water fight with literally EVERYONE with supersoakers, buckets of water and a white powder that the put on the side of your face as part of the tradition. It was quite simply absolutely crazy! Anyone thinking of coming to Thailand April is the perfect time of year for it, party and the best weather combine. 30 every day, not humid as i expected and nice blue skies and warm water.
I will let the photos tell the story of Songkran, it can not be described in words and i recommend esperiencing it for yourself!
Naturally we prepared and armed ourselves for an epic battle!!!
I lost out in the end here, the chick who was filling her water bucket up was pissed off when she stood up and i tipped her own bucket of ice water on her. I got chased down and painted white as the result!
Oh and as for training, they were shut yesterday giving me the full day to celebrate. Was and awesome day but very tiring, slept well that night.
Trained in a 3 hour session this afternoon as they had limited trainers 2 to about 50 people when it is normally a trainer per 4 people maximum. So it was actually a pretty ordinary session as i had too actually hold pads for people as well as hit them which is not normal, i think the beginner class got merged with the intermediate cause of the limited trainers, either that or like 30 people highly over rate themselves. But that said i got the most out of the session that i could.
Knee is still stuffed and my left shoulder which has been hurting since before i left is starting to get very sore. that said i can still train and i am hoping that it doesn't get any worse. I really want to start Grappling again and it is quite frustrating not being able too. Might go see a Thai Doc about getting a few Cortisone injections.
